ArtisticWoodturners
Newsletter January 2009

The New Year is here ready or not. Hope we are ready for whatever lays ahead for each and every one of us.

As a club we want this year to be the best learning experience you have had in your entire turning career. If you would like to learn to do a specific type of turning check with one of our members to see if there is someone skilled on that subject.  Next call them and set up a time to visit with them in their shop for a lesson or two. We have a mentoring program with several people willing to help you achieve your goal.

The Mentors are Bill Bryan, Jack Diamond, Mike Peters, Al McCoy, George McClure and others. If you have a skill you want to share with our members let the committee know so we can get the word out to those who want the help.

Our meeting for January will be on the 17th same time same place. Remember if you are on the board we meet one hour before the regular meeting starts. All members are invited to attend and give your input as to what you want to learn during the year and whom you would like to see for a professional demonstrator.

For our first meeting of the year we will have several members doing a short how to demonstration. George will show you the tooling for piercing, airbrushing, and wood burning. James will show you how to use a wire brush to texture your turning.  Al will show how to lay out your turning to flute a bowl, and show you the tools you will need to complete the project. Ralph will provide a hand out on how he does the dying of his bowls. Mike will bring a needle gun that can be used for texturing wood. This will not be a hands on demonstration, but you will be able to ask questions and some handouts will be available.

Practice safety at all times. Be cautious and alert. See you at the meeting.
