Don’t forget! Al Hockenbery will be our guest demonstrator for the July 15th
meeting. Al is an AAW board member and a fantastic turner. The
demonstration fee is $10 for members and $15 for non-members. During the
June meeting we decided to have a pot-luck lunch and Ralph Thomas volunteered to
provide BBQ pork. Several others signed up to bring side dishes, bread and
desserts. There is still a need for ice and drinks and we could use some
more bread or rolls, and side dishes too. Please let James (jemcclure@bellsouth.net)
know if you can bring something. Al Hockenbery will also be doing a
hands-on workshop on Sunday, July 16th at O.B.’s. If you signed up to
take the class, please bring your payment to the Saturday meeting so Ray Welsh
can collect it. Also, if you signed up to bring a mini lathe, please
don’t forget to bring it to O.B.’s with you on Sunday. If anyone else
is interested in taking the class, let James know. We may be able to
accommodate one more person.
We had a large contingent at the AAW Symposium last week and I know all who attended had a great time in spite of the crowded demonstration rooms, long food lines, and other problems. It was a tremendous learning experience so start planning for Portland next year.
We
held the second turning exchange was last month and there were only five
participants. There was some confusion about whether or not you could
participate if you brought something for the first one. You can
participate every time we have an exchange. If you can’t make it to the
meeting let James or someone else in the club know and we can take your piece
for you. This can be a really neat program if we have good participation.
The items that have been brought for exchange so far have been terrific.
This is a great opportunity to acquire some turnings from your fellow club
members and a great way to start or add to your collection. The next
exchange will be September 16th so please consider participating.
Don't forget about turning your Christmas ornaments for the program that our
club has volunteered to provide to the Optimist Club, ornaments for them to sale
during their annual Christmas Tree sale. The more we make for them the more
money the can make for their program to help the children.
Remember to bring in your wood for the club auction. The money earned for this
event helps the club pay for the professional turners that we invite to teach
new techniques to our members. If you have used equipment you no longer
want you can bring
it to our auction, if you want to donate it, to help support the club's
activities.
If you are doing something special with your lathe, that you think others would
be interested in learning, you might want to volunteer to do a demonstration to
show us your skill. The club is looking for some new demonstrators.
See you on the 15th.
Danny does his thing selling wood at our auction. As you see
in the background a Craftsman saw donated for the auction.

his mark on those that participate in the hands on and makes you a better
turner.
Jack shows off his contribution to the club challenge. Very good entry for being
thin. This challenge was up his alley.

Dianne's contribution, I don't know if it is for the Keystone Kops or to keep
Hubby in line. Keep bringing them in for us to see.
