Tony Cortese will be here May 20th for a club demo and May 21st for a hands-on workshop. The charge for the club demo is $7 for members and $10 for non-members. Tony will be demonstrating relief carving on turnings using a high-speed dental type drill. Lunch will be provided. The hands-on workshop will be at O.B.’s on Sunday. The charge to attend the hands-on workshop is $100. Let James McClure (jemcclure@bellsouth.net) know if you are interested in attending the hands-on session. Space is limited.
Since we will be having a demonstrator at the next meeting, the club challenge and wood auction will be postponed until the next meeting. You can bring things for “show and tell” for display only. We will not do our normal “show and tell” so I guess we’ll just call it a “show”. We will have a short business meeting mainly to elect a new treasurer. Ray Welsh has volunteered to take over the treasurer’s job. If anyone else is interested in taking the job, then let James know and we will do a vote. Otherwise, we will make Ray the official treasurer at the meeting.
The challenge for the June meeting is a long and thin turning. Some suggestions are chop sticks, hair sticks, magic wands, knitting needles, conductor’s baton, etc… The winner will win a $20 gift certificate from Packard Woodworks and will be judged based on originality, execution, and long and thinness. The June meeting will also be our next wood turning exchange. We had 11 participants at the last meeting and the pieces were outstanding. We are off to a great start with the new exchange program. George McClure summed it up best when he said, “there wasn’t a piece on the table that I wouldn’t be proud to own.” Thanks to all who participated!
Al Hockenbery will be here July 15th for an all day club demo and July 16th for a hand-on workshop. Al does functional and artistic turnings. His web page is: http://www.hockenbery-woodturnings.com/. The fee for the club demo is $10 for members and $15 for non-members. The fee for the hands-on workshop will be based on the number of students, but will most likely be in the $40 - $60 range. The hands-on workshop will be on how to turn a solid sphere (including how to make the cup chucks which are required to do this). Please let James know if you are interested in participating in the hands-on workshop.
If you are interested in participating in the club demo at the Pensacola Heritage Days, it will be on June 3rd at the Museum of Commerce starting at 9am. I believe this will be the 5th year in a row that we participated in this event, if you have participated in the past Thank You, if you would like to help again this year let us know. They furnish food and drinks to the helpers.

everyone that participated in this endeavor.

Danny showing off the wood burner that several members are involved in making
out of a computer power supply. As of now it seems to be working fine. Question
is this item going to be available for members to buy? Let us know.

The auction went well there were some different items for sell. This type helps
the club out with money being put into our account for the good of the club.

put on their gouge.
