ArtisticWoodturners
February 06 Newsletter
January sure has flown by very fast at least for
me, don't seem to be enough hours in the day to do every thing that I want to
do. I have been busy showing a few interested members on how to do a segmented
bowl.
The steering committee met last night to plan the next two meetings February and
March. It was a fruitful one and plan on attending for your own
edification.
This months challenge is make an item that is primarily made on the lathe fit
together in some way. The parts cannot be permanently fixed together. Any thing
glued together does not count. A box with a slip fit or threaded lid is OK. The
project must have at least two parts or more. Remember quality and how these
parts fit together and interact with each other for the judging. Winner will
receive a gift certificate for Packard.
Don't forget that the AAW Symposium will be in Louisville Thursday June 22 thru
Saturday the 24th. Plan to attend and make reservations early. There will be 30
world class turners, door prizes five 2436 Oneway lathes will be
given away and fifty $100 dollar gift certificates from Packard Woodworks. For
more info go to www.woodturner.org/sym/sym2006/.
The demonstration by Al McCoy he will be doing a
Peppermill and show you the mechanisms from Chef Specialties
another choice.
If you would like to order a club shirt with our logo, please e-mail Danny
Haggard dehaggard@yahoo.com or call
516-8950.
We had a large crowd last meeting an had a parking problem, Solution there is
plenty of parking behind the building if you arrive early please park in the
back. Remember do not block access to the back.
We will be having a discussion with members about Clearing
the Air in your shop so bring in your ideas for the discussion, your
method for removing dust from the air. Send your
good ideas to Danny for on the website.
Bring in your wood for the wood auction it is a money maker for the club. Last
month we made $70 for in our account.
Remember we will be having our March meeting at Blackwater Tool and are asking
members to car pool if you can since parking will be scarce and we will need the
parking for people coming to buy our turnings. Thank You.
Details for Blackwater if you want to set up a table to display your work to
show it. You will be responsible for providing your own tables and chairs. If
you have a small 10X10 tent or a large umbrella for shade you may set them up to
protect you from the sun and we hope there is no rain. The hours will be from 9
am to 3 pm. We will be sharing the day with the Flor-a-Bama Cutups they will be
set up with us, so plan on spending the day with us. See you there.
