Artisticwood Turners
Newsletter January 2006
Another year has come to us, are you all ready
for it? Lets pray that the hurricane season won't be as persistent as last
years. Hope that you had a prosperous 2005 and accomplished all that you wanted
during the year. We have a new year ahead of us and hope you are ready for the
things coming your way.
The club had a wonderful Christmas Party at the club house, hope you were one of
the participants and received a nice turning as your exchange gift. You know
that this was the beginning of the clubs exchange program that will take place
every three months. It will be a voluntary program if you want to
participate.
The first meeting of 2006 will be on the 21st of January at 9a.m. The
demonstration will be how to make a Celtic Knot by Kurt Forbes and OB will be
turning a hollow form on his Midi lathe. There will be something new to learn
for most of us that have never made a Celtic Knot or a hollow form. The steering
committee has been trying to make each and every meeting a learning experience.
In February Al McCoy will show you how to make a Pepper mill. We will start the
club challenge at this time. If there is something that you would like to learn
to turn please ask during the business part of the meeting. We need the feedback
in order to fulfill your needs.
Mike Peters has purchased a new laser engraving machine. If you would like some
personal engravings made call Mike.
The club's March meeting on the 18th will be held at the Blackwater Tool location
at 9a.m. The club is invited to bring their turnings and set up your tables for
selling your items. The club will be conducting a turning demonstration for the
purpose of showing the public how to turn on a lathe. This will be an
opportunity to recruit new members and show others the fun of turning. The
Flora-Bama Cut Ups our local wood carving club will be sharing the day with us.
The Boy Scouts will be selling hotdogs and soft drinks. Blackwater will be doing
the advertising for us. We hope that the News Journal will advertise it for us
also. We will have our regular meeting so bring your auction items. The event
will probably run from 9 a.m. till 2 p.m. for the people who want to sell and
the demonstrators. Mark it on your calendar. If you
would like to do a demonstration let Al McCoy know what you want to do. We will
have a schedule for the demonstrations.
The committee would like to thank the people that helped to make the Christmas
party a success. Thank you for the gifts and food, you brought. Thanks to all
the people who helped set up and cleaned up. Thank everyone that showed up. See you at the meeting.
