December 2005 Newsletter
Here we have another year coming to a close,
seems like just yesterday we were at this point. Do you think it may be father
time turning up the speed dial or are we having too much fun turning objects on
our lathes that we do not notice how time is disappearing.
The committee wishes club members one and all holiday greetings.
Remember the next meeting is still the third Saturday of the month the 17th of
December starting at 9:00 am. We plan on having a social time from 9:00 to 9:30
then a short business meeting from 9:30 to 10:00 am. Our entertainment will
start at 10:00 when we will have the Dirty Santa gift exchange. Everyone is
encouraged to bring a turning that you have turned yourself for the gift
exchange. Wives our encouraged to participate this year by bring a gift that has
at least a value of $20.00 or more and related to woodworking. Wives can bring a
gift made by there selves or maybe they can talk their husbands into making a
gift for them to bring for the exchange. Remember the committee does not want
any gag gifts or white elephants. The rule for this year to help speed up the
game is once you get the same gift two times it is yours to keep unless you want
to exchange it with someone after the game is over.
We will be striving to finish the game portion by 11:00, because that is the
time the food will arrive. The club will pay for the BBQ as we did last year and
the members will bring the covered dishes that they signed up to bring.
The committee had some concern about our membership. It seems like it is
dwindling or floundering. They would like to see more participation in the show
and tell portion of the meeting. If your turning you should share with the club
the thing that you have been making. If you are shy and would like some help
getting started on a project ask for help. The club wants to restart a program
we once had in place, called The Mentoring Program. Several club members have
offered to each member wanting help the opportunity to come to a one on one
training session for something you would like to learn. Call or talk to the
following people who have offered in the past to help, Bill Bryan, Jack Diamond,
James McClure and Al McCoy. If you would like to help in this matter please
contact our president for more details.
See you at the party.
