Mark your calendar for the
Christmas party for next month. The date is our next club meeting the third
Saturday the 17th of December at the regular time 9 am.
Our meeting on October the 15th was well attended. We had
three visitors from the area. Thank you all for attending a good time was had by
all. The auction went very well since we requested that members donate wood that
they would turn themselves.
Our President James McClure gave some pointers on how to sign your work with several options, from archival ink to etcher to wood burning tool, depending on the color of the wood.
Danny conducted the auction with the wood that was brought in. This month there was a bigger selection than we have had for awhile. Even though Leland didn't make the meeting this time he did send his usual selection of exotic woods for the auction. The money earned goes back into the club treasury for the good of all.

Nice wood, but wait till it returns as something nice as
you know there is a turning in every piece of wood waiting to get out.
Some of the items turned in for Show & Tell were front
to back, small earrings, a lighthouse lamp, gallic pen blanks, four nesting
bowls, turkey calls, the club challenge for the month, pepper mills & salt
mills, a burl turning, pen holders, bowls, hollow form, and a sculptured bowl.
James shows off his Lighthouse Oil Lamp that he made for
his sister.
Fred turns his first hollow form. A very good job for his first attempt, made out of walnut. Very professional. Keep the chips flying.

Gary's contribution is a turning from an oak burl that he got out of a dumpster. The tree was about 10" in diameter but the burl was almost three times the size. Gary says he has 4 more platters to turn from the burl. Another bowl rescued from the trash.

George shows off a Kingwood bowl he turned from his stash of Kingwood. There is more where this came from.
Jack has assembled a very nice segmented pen holder from staves to segments, a very nice turning.

Kurt shows off his gallic design for pen blanks, keep up the good ideas and sharing them with all of the club.

Les shows off his lidded China Berry contribution that he
purchased at one of our past auctions. Keep the good wood coming in to the club
auction so others can participate in Show & Tell.
Ray Welsh holds up his turkey call one of the many calls turned in for the challenge. It must have worked there were a few turkeys at our meeting.

Larry Starkey holds up his call made from a piece of Cherry that he an Al rescued from a fire place. The Cherry tree was being split for in a fire place. The tree was cut in 2001 a very large tree. Larry brought a large piece of this tree to the auction a few meetings back. Thanks Larry for sharing.

Russ Revels brings in his first turning for Show & Tell, a Christmas ornament. He used the instructions that is posted on our web site to make his jig and then turned two ornaments in the process. Russ joined the woodturners when we were meeting at Blackwater Tool and now he is participating in our Show & Tell. He has produced several trivets in his shop out of Corian on his own NC machine, which he built with his electronic background. Russ brought a proto type of our club logo that he programmed and produced on his NC machine.

Ray shows off a rattle he turned prior to the Demo next month. He also showed off his Turkey Call.

Tom Tydlacka found an old tool and didn't know what it was so he brought it to S & T and now he knows now that it was a wooden shingle splitter now we all know. Thanks Tom for the education and thank the members who knew what it was.
The demonstration was split up for this month, which was the perennial ornament by Al McCoy and Ray Welch divided up the demo.

Al turns the body of the ornament from scrap pieces of
walnut that was given to him by Jim Bert. Turn the prepared wood round then
hollow the inside and out side and make two the same size and glue them together
and shape and sand the out side. Turn the finials and assemble. You now have an
ornament to finish.
Ray's collection of Ornaments and the tree topper in the front. Nice job. Two of the ornaments on Ray's hanger belongs to Russ the two in the upper left on the hanger.

Here Ray is turning a finial for on the ornament that Al turned. Al and Ray hope that you were inspired to make an ornament for the next Presidents challenge. If you need some coaching to complete your ornament, Al is willing to help you complete your project just give him a call. You can come to his shop for help.
Thank you all for coming to the meeting and bringing new prospective members. Keep bringing Show and Tell items to make the meetings really exciting. See you next month.
