The meeting held on the 16 of July was just a
little different this time, we had our wood auction so that Danny could go to
another commitment. Here Danny holds up a box of wood that brought in $21.00 to
the club, And the winner is. See who is back at our
meetings in the stripped shirt.

Les Phipps shows Genie Bottle and several other turnings he made from a large Red Cedar tree. Look for more creations from Les. OB's turn to show his Genie bottle. OB was heard saying his genie got loose since he didn't make a lid for containment so he will suffer the consequences. Al McCoy had a bottle to show but it is too difficult to photograph himself. Some more of the show and tell from Leland some outstanding pepper mills and some of his latest turnings made out of Pecan.

Here Jack shows us how his spin top works on his special plate with a no-loose rim. The top worked as advertised. His grandson will like what Grandpa made. Al McCoy made a throw top so that the group would have two choices of tops to make for their sons or grandsons. A spin top or a throw top. Al had never made a throw top so he didn't know how to throw is once he finished it, but there was several men that had made them as kids and showed him some of their tricks.

OB's Genie made him break his diet with some of Mike Peter's pastry from Wynn Dixie. I believe the genie bent his arm with very little twisting. They were very good! Thanks Mike. We had plenty of members helping with the cleanup. Thank You for remaining to help. Keep up the good work.
(* Al McCoy asked me to finish this newsletter since he is going on vacation. Danny)
We had the steering committee meeting and discussed several of the clubs future plans. Binh Pho is coming to the Azalea Woodturners October 1st and 2nd cost should be 25$ a day. OB is also planning on hosting a 2 day workshop at his place when Binh is in town. James McClure has gathered a lot of information about this years Interstate Fair Oct 20 - 30th. This gives everyone time to get something made to enter the completion. Check out the Events Page for more information on booth these events.
The committee is also planning for our next guest wood turner several names were brought up but nothing has been set in stone as of yet. If you have a turner you would like to see contact James McClure. We did put our name on the list for David Ellsworth to do a demo in Pensacola... for sometime in 2007! Everyone should have plenty of warning for this demo. OB was nice enough to run his trailer out to Randy Pualk's place and pickup all of his wood for the club, of course I didn't learn about this until I had driven out their myself, that will teach me not to call first. Everyone be sure to bring some cash for the wood auction. Speaking of wood, the Kingwood sale is going great, We have about 20 people involved and have gotten about $4000 collected. The cut off for orders is going to be Wednesday the 10th. If you haven't gotten your check to me do so quickly. More information to come!
The meeting is August 20th, The club challenge is "Something A Child Can Play With" and this month's demo is a Suspended Vessel by Ray Welsh and a hollowing demonstration by OB O'Brian.
See you at the meeting....
