Artistic Woodturners

 April 05 Newsletter

The steering committee met at the presidents’ home Thursday evening in a downpour more like a frog strangler. When it finally ended we had around 13” of the wet stuff. It was so bad only about half of the committee showed up.

Topic of discussion was Mr. Donald Derry our next Professional turner to grace our presents. He will be here for our next meeting the 16th of April at the Woodmen of the World Lodge at 9050 Ashland Ave. starting at 9 am. The cost will be $25 for members and $35 for non-members.  We encourage attendees to bring their own lunch or grab a quick bite at Hardies during the break, Snacks and Coffee will provide by the club. We don’t want to loose much of Donald’s time, we will limit lunch to 45 min.

Donald’s website is www.donaldderry.com Check it out.

We are planning on having hands on session in OB’s shop in Pace, Florida on Sunday the 17th at a cost of $100 per person and will be limited to 6 people.

Bring your club challenge for the month, which is a one-tool project from start to finish. Bring the tool you used for the challenge.

In order to save as much time as possible we will not have show and tell, the auction, and a very short business meeting.

Members that ordered anchor seal can get in touch with Danny Haggard and make arrangements to pickup your product. His phone number is 516-8950 and address is 6264 Kirsten Dr.

AAW has designated June as Youth Month and ask that each club participate in a program for showing the youth how to turn wood and learning skills related to this craft. We are looking for members to help in this program. The age group is 12 thru 17.  If you would like to help with this program please let our President James McClure know your wishes.

Our librarian George McClure would like some in put for some new additions to the library. Give him a call at 937-0868. If you are a new member and have not checked out our resources you might want to look through the books, tapes, DVD’s and magazines for some expert help, on turning, from some of the best turners in America.

The committee encourages you will take advantage of this opportunity to learn some new techniques in the art of woodturning. Attendance at these sessions will make you a better turner in the years to come. See you there.
