January 05 Newsletter

The Artistic woodturners would like to extend our deepest sympathy to one of our members James and Martha Lewis in the death of their 16-year-old grandson C. P. Lewis.

We hope that everyone had a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year and health and happiness to all members in the coming year.

Put this date on your calendar January 18th Trent Bosch will be doing his demonstration starting at 5:30 p. m. the cost will be $20. This Demo will run till 9:30 p. m. You are encouraged to bring someone you know that is interested in woodturning.

Bring your show and tell items for members viewing.

The club has been trying to have a forum a question and answer part in our meeting. This segment is supposed to encourage members that are having some difficulty with a certain problem with their turning projects an opportunity to get some answers. Bring your questions and the members chosen to provide the answers will do their best to answer your questions.
We will have both of our lathes set up so that we can go to the lathe for a clarification of your question. The reason for the existence of the club is to promote woodturning by sharing the information and encourage members to learn more about becoming a better turner.

We are going to have some demonstrations on how to finish your projects. Some of our members use different methods to finish their projects and have offered to show the rest of us how they finish their turnings. Jack Diamond will be showing how he uses wipe on Deft to finish his projects. Bill Bryan will show how he uses his Beall wood buffing system. Mike Demaline will show us how he uses Wipe on Poly and Tung oil. Danny Haggard will be doing a demo using friction polish.

The web site for the month is www.surpluscenter.com this site has items for members that are making their own vacuum chucks and buffing systems. Check it out.

The club would like to thank the ladies that helped make our first Christmas Party a huge success. The left over food was donated to the Waterfront Mission. Thank You all for the food that you prepared.
