Artistic Woodturner
October 04 Newsletter

Hope that you have all survived IVAN without any damage or minimal damage.

You have no excuse for not having any wood to turn, it is everywhere, Ash, Magnolia, Oak, Bay, Poplar, Walnut, Pecan, etc. its all cut up laying by the road, streets and byways, just help yourself. Don't wait too long it is being picked up everyday.

We will be meeting at the same place at the same time 16th of October starting at 9am. Woodmen sustained very little damage. Jack went by on Monday of this week and paid the rent so we are current.

The club has received the demonstration TV camera and stand to use with our new system and before the meeting I will be buying the club a VCR to use as a converter. We will be able to record each and every demo for in our library if we want.

The demonstrations for this month will be by Jack Diamond and James McClure. Jack will be showing how to do a captive ring and James will be showing how to turn a ladle. James learned how to do the ladle at the Symposium in Orlando.

Chuck Ward will be bringing his Vacuum chuck that he built to show how it works.

We will be having the election for the next year's slate of club officers come and help welcome them. We will be electing a new President and VP.

Remember that the AAW has two lathes to be given away to the luck winner. In order to qualify all you have to do is join the AAW and your name will be put in for the drawing. You have till December to enter, so join now.

The club has a new feature called "question and answer" you bring the questions and we have the answers. We have four volunteers, turners with the most experience with the answers to your questions. The club wants to give each and every turner the opportunity to become the turner that they want to be.

Something we have done in the past is " one on one" help for new turners and anyone that would like to learn new techniques. Several members have volunteered to do "one on one" help.  Contact Jack Diamond, Al McCoy, and Bill Brian for help. If you would like to help with the training let Al McCoy know so we can put the info in the next newsletter or you can let us know at the meeting.

See you at the meeting and don't forget to bring your turnings for "show and tell".

Don't forget about the Auction bring your donations. The money earned goes into the club treasury for bigger and better things, Tapes, Tools etc.
