Happy Birthday America!!

Hope the members have been turning some really new neat pieces for show and tell. As a club it appears that interest is starting to pick-up with all the entries each month keeping the table full of your creations. They look very good setting there for the club to view. The membership wants to know how you created your work, so be prepared to tell us.

The demo for this month will be "How to turn a bud vase or weed pot for the younger generation"

The Auction is helping to put money in the treasury for some future project, so if you have any wood, tools, etc. that you would like to bring to the meeting for auction please bring them.

The club project for this month will be a miniature in any form. The dimensions cannot be any larger than 1.5" in any direction and must be created on a lathe. This is a challenge for your minds. See what you can come up with.

The steering committee has talked about other club members giving demonstrations of things that they have discovered during their turning career. They would like for some new demonstrators to step forward and show us your stuff. The demos do not have to be long and complicated, just informative. The clubs purpose is to teach wood turning every way we can, so bring us your ideas and be willing to show us how you do your thing. There are plenty of ideas so share them.

James McClure will be giving a demo on  "The steps for a successful demo" Just the facts about a good demo and how to keep people interested in watching.

The door prize for this month will be a 15% off any purchase of promotion items from Craft Supply Provo, Utah; we will also have a few gift certificates to pass out, be there for a chance to win.

In this months AAW magazine summer of 04 there is an article on the totem poles at the Arrowmont Schools for the arts. These poles have been up for a long time and are getting weather beaten and need replaced. The school has asked the AAW to participate in furnishing some new totems for a new pole. Each chapter in AAW can furnish a section to be constructed at your own sight and sent to Arrowmont. This chapter will be looking for individuals to help prepare our own totem for submission. If you would like to participate please be at the next meeting for the pre-planning discussion during our business meeting. Each totem will be 21" high and 21" in diameter with a 31/2" ID hole in the center so it can fit on the furnished pole at Arrowmont. Our totem will have to be strong enough to withstand a load of other totems placed on top. Bring your ideas with you for the discussion. The club will form a committee of the members who want to help make this project.

As some of you know Jack Knowles is the oldest member still turning at 92? I heard him answering someone at the last meeting if he was still turning and his reply was "if he could get some wood to turn" If anyone would like to help Jack bring some wood for him to turn. Thank You See you at the meeting.
