Artistic Woodturners
March Newsletter

Another month has arrived looks like spring is here. What a good time to be turning, life is great.

The club has been growing some in the past few months; we have thirteen new members that have joined our group. Remember to make them feel welcome, shake their hand and talk to them and find out what their skill level is so we know where to start their training.

The club is meeting the third Saturday of the month at the Woodman of the world in their clubhouse at 9050 Ashland Ave. Just south off 9-mile road. Bring a friend.

The club has gotten permission from the Woodmen to extend our time on Saturday after the meetings to do a little bit of hands on training for anyone who needs help using your tools or advice on most any type of woodturning.

The club has received some good news from the AAW, our request for a grant has been approved and we will be receiving $940.00 to be used for club equipment.

We will be having Nick Cook as a demonstrator for our April meeting. Nick is a world famous turner from Atlanta. The cost per person is $10 for members $15 for non-members on Saturday. On Sunday Nick will be talking about how to market your turnings and other aspects of the business.

The President's challenge for this month is a sphere; here is a chance to make a round-to-it.

The demonstration for this month will be on turning a Mushroom, the demonstrator will be Robert McBroom. OB wants to show the club how to polish your turnings. He wants you to bring one of your finished turnings to show you how to polish it with a buffing wheel. He also said that he would not polish the whole item.

Each member is encouraged to bring one piece of wood to the next meeting to auction off. The money will help restore funds in our bank account a sort of fund-raiser.

Bill Bryan will be teaching with some hands-on training immediately after the regular meeting for anyone wanting to learn the proper way to use your woodturning tools. Bring your own tools if you want some one to see if you are sharpening them properly.

Welcome to all the new turners. See you at the meeting.
