Artistic
Wood Turners
February Newsletter
Our
meeting will be held on Saturday the 21st of February at the Woodman of the
World Lodge at 9 a. m. 9050 Ashland Ave. see you there.
If you
missed the last meeting you missed an opportunity to learn how to do some
different types of turnings. Mark Gardner is an up and coming professional
turner with some different ideas. Mark shared many of his ideas with our
members. Attached photos are the highlights of his visit, and they will be
posted on our website. For member without computers I apologize to you.
The
demonstration for this month will be done by James McClure he will be turning
a sphere. For members who never have time to turn for show and tell, James
will show you how to make Aroundtoit, so you will never have an excuse not to
participate.
I hope
some of our members participated in the free wood that was available during
the month of January. The wood was already cut into sizes you could use, all
you had to do was go and pick it up. I believe there is still some of the
Magnolia available. If you would like some of it call Al McCoy for directions
to the location, of the wood.
Here is
the address for a new website I found,
www.wwhardware.com
they sell hardware for cabinetmakers, and they have hard to find items, just
thought you might be interested.
For all of
the new members to our club WELCOME. If you want to know what the club has
been doing over the past few years you may go to our website at
www.artisticwoodturners.com and check the back issues of the newsletter
and read them, we have a gallery for you to place some of your turnings in for
others to view, all you have to do is send your digital images to our web
Master Danny Haggard at
dehaggard@yahoo.com.
For all
members that have nice turnings to show you are encouraged to send them to the
Gallery for others to see, if you do not have a camera you can bring them to
the meeting and have Al McCoy photograph them for submission.
Show and
tell is a way that you gain confidence in your self and in your turning
ability. This part of the meeting is very important for you to participate in
this event, because it helps you to do better, because if your turning you are
learning. Our club has members that are willing to help the new turners how to
achieve proficiency in how to use your lathe. All you have to do is ask them.
When you come to the meeting just ask who they are. Al McCoy is one of them
and his number is 434-1687. He has to go to his brother's funeral and is
leaving in the morning the 8th of Feb. for Pa. He may be back before the
meeting. Bring anything for the President's Challenge.
