Artistic Wood
Turners
December Newsletter
Merry Christmas to all
woodturner's young and senior. The steering committee sends you season
greetings. Our December meeting will be held at the Woodmen of the World lodge
located at 9050 Ashland Ave. on the 20th of December from 9 a.m. till 12 noon.
Hope you can make the meeting.
The President's
challenge for this month will be a Christmas ornament. The committee
encourages all to participate in the challenge and in the show and tell part
of the meeting. Participation means that you will learn to be a better turner
if you take the time to turn various types of projects. If you are turning you
are learning. Sounds like a motto for the club.
The demonstration for
this month will be given by, Bill Brian one of our senior turners. He will be
doing a demo on making a rolling pin. This will also be the President's
Challenge for the month of January.
Don't forget that the
club has changed the way our dues becomes payable. The due date is the
anniversary month of you joining the club. Mike Demaline is now collecting
dues every month. He will have a published list of members whose dues are now
due for January and February.
We have several
members who have volunteered to do some mentoring for the membership on
different turning projects. If you are interested in receiving some one on one
help, ask at our next meeting for an answer and some help. If you are having a
problem with a certain item we have someone who can help you.
OB O'Brien has some
Pecan wood for the membership up at his place in Pace. Just give him a call
and he will be glad to show you where it is located on his Shady Acres. The
memo I sent out on the Sycamore tree that was being cut down at 3000 Panama
has not been cut yet the owner delayed a few weeks so just stand by. He is
going to cut it down soon as per Chuck Ward.
The club will be
applying for a grant from AAW for the benefit of our membership. The steering
committee is encouraging the membership to join the AAW for the benefit of
each person who joins. You will receive a very instructive magazine quarterly
the American Woodturner, your name will appear in the AAW membership book ,
you get a copy, and you will be enrolled in their group insurance plan. The
cost is just $35 per year well worth the benefits.
The steering committee
met recently and has decided to scout for a professional turner to come to
Pensacola to do a demo for our club, in the next six months or so. The
members are asked for your input as to who you would like to see do a demo.
The web sight of the
month is a couple of suppliers of woodturning supplies and equipment. Here
they are
www.pennstateind.com;
www.packardwoodworks.com; and
www.woodcraft.com. You
might try going to Blackwater Tools for some of your supplies in some cases I
have found there prices are lower and you have no shipping costs. They have
belts and knobs for the Midi Lathe two items that break once in a while.
Happy turning and a
Merry Christmas
