Artistic Woodturners
September Newsletter
This letter is just a tad late this month. We had a committee looking in to a new meeting place for the club. They found a real nice place just off 9-mile road. We will be meeting on September the 20th at 9 am at the Woodman of the World Lodge 9050 Ashland Ave. Directions are as follows Ashland is approximately one (1) mile west of Hwy 29 and for people coming up Pine Forrest it is one (1) mile East of PF remember to turn south on Ashland, See You there.

Jack Diamond will be showing the club how to turn Christmas tree ornaments out of small scraps of wood. Al McCoy will show new turners how to make Pens and Pencils. If there is some one out there that wants to do a demo please let some one know. The club needs more in put from other members.

Our club has been asked to participate in a seminar coming up 8 and 9 November it will be held in the Freeport Community Center. The guest turner will be Reuben Everett from Virginia topic: Spindle turning and tool making for spindle work. Estimated cost for the two days $50 plus the cost of the tool making material. We will have the application forms at our meeting coming up.

The Presidents Challenge for this month will be anything turned between centers. Spindle turning is his choice.

Don't forget to bring your turnings for the show and tell portion of the meeting. This should be an inspirational part of our meeting, but lately there hasn't been very much participation, so get out in your shop and dust off your tools and make some items to bring. Remember the club's goal is to teach as many people the art of woodturning as we can, but you must help yourself, the learning is up to you.

The committee is urging our members to join the AAW for all the benefits the new and better quarterly magazine with how to items to try plus, insurance to protect you in case of an accident while participating at an AAW function. You also get a directory with all members' names including your own.

The club needs your help finding some lost or borrowed items. I was approached about some missing pen mandrels and related items that were checked out some time ago from our librarian. If you have them or know where they are located please return them so other club members can use them. Thank You!

The web sight for this month is www.woodworkingshop.com they have some items related to turning that you may be interested in check it out.

See you at the meeting.
