This month may prove to be very exciting if every member participates in the President’s Challenge. This has to be very challenging if you try. Don’t know how to do Inside-outside turning. Those that have computers here is what you do, click on the following to find out what and how to do this type of turning. www.drechsler-verband.ch/frameset.htm or home.vicnet.net.au/~pwguild and click on Projects then inside out; or www.lehighvalleywoodturners.org/page2.html.
The President is looking for a person that has skills in writing grant proposals. He would like a proposal requesting a grant for 3 small lathes, chucks and accessories to be used for teaching woodturning to anyone who would like to learn to turn at our AAW chapter.
Lyle Jamieson world famous Woodturner and sculptor will be doing a two (2) day demonstration Saturday and Sunday 19th and 20th of July in Hattiesburg Miss. This will be our regular meeting time, if you would like to go you are welcome. The cost for the two days is $35.00. You will have to make your own reservations for lodging, food and transportation. The good news is on the 26th and 27th of July the following weekend he will be coming to Pace Florida to do a demonstration in OB’S studio at a cost of $35.00 for both days. The demonstration is limited to 30 people, so purchase your tickets early. Send your money orders, checks or cash to OB O’Brien 5051 Hamilton Bridge Rd. Pace Fl 32571
In order to speed up the meetings we will be doing away with some of the business portion. The club will have an advisory committee doing the scheduling of the demo’s etc. Member will still have an input to what takes place during our meetings. Just contact an advisory member by phone, letter, e-mail or pony express.
We would like to have a sign in sheet for the meetings so we will know who is attending so we can tailor the meetings better to suit those that are coming.
Show and Tell will be bigger and better. We hope to have three levels of turning beginner, intermediate and advanced. We are going to start out with this portion of the meeting.
The demonstrations consist of the following. Al McCoy will show members how to make a chatter tool and what they can be used for. OB O’Brien will be showing how to do texturing on wood. Jeff Olive will be doing a session on how to sharpen your tools. If other members have something you would like to share with fellow turners, bring your ideas. See you at the meeting.
