Artistic Woodturners
Time flies when you’re having fun, or retired. My intentions were in the right place. I promise not to wait in June. Our meeting will be at OB’s Saturday the 17th May starting at 9 pm. The Presidents challenge is “Put a lid on it.” I take this to mean a turned item that has a lid on it. I have sent a prior message with this info so you wouldn’t be caught at the last minute with only a few days to make something.
Heritage Days will be held on
Saturday the 7th of June at the Heritage Museum from 10 am to 4 pm.
We will be looking for volunteers to help. The foundation has a pole lathe that
they want the Woodturners in our club to demonstrate for the public.
Anyone interested in some Cherry
Laurel may call Virginia Poffenberger at 435-4755. The wood is already cutup at
her house. Call her and make your own arrangements if you want this wood.
The club is looking for an
alternate sight to hold our meetings, several of our members have said that
they will check a few places for us like PJC or UWF, so far no reports. If you
know of a possible sight let the membership know. We will be discussing it at
our May meeting.
OB will be doing a demo on “How
to use a Center saver.” Bill Stephenson will be doing a demo. If any members
would like to do a demo, bring your idea and help out a new turner learn
something new.
World Famous turner Lyle
Jaimieson will be doing a demonstration at the Hattiesburg Club July meeting,
the 19th and 20th a Saturday and a Sunday. This will be
an inexpensive session for the attendees. Hattiesburg is just a short drive for
a one session or you can stay overnight for the second day. Option # 2, we
could have him come to our meeting some time in the future. We will discuss
this issue at our meeting.
Question do you think it would be
a good idea to buy a chainsaw for the clubs use?
Web sight of the month. www.woodturningonline.com Check it
out. Some photos from past meetings are enclosed for those of you that have a
computer. For turners that want to try segmented bowl turning you might try www.verifiedsoftware.com/goodturns/
for an easy to use program for a reasonable price.
