Artistic Woodturners

October  Newsletter

This newsletter slipped up on me, with just a few more days to get this finished and in the mail for all you folks without computers.

The meeting will be at OB's in Pace at 9am Saturday the 19th of October. Mr. Greg Jenson, the US distributor for Kelton and McNaughton tools, will be here to do a demonstration with the Kelton Hollowers, Kel McNaughton System, Air Driven sanders and a Donut sander. Greg will be here Saturday and Sunday showing you how this equipment operates.

The club will soon be having the election of new officers. OB doesn't want to run for a new term as President. The newsletter needs a new editor.  Think about helping the club, and volunteer for one of the offices coming vacant.

The project for this month is an open category. You can make anything you want for show and tell as long as you tell the other members how you accomplished your project. This might prove to be very interesting and informative for the attending members.

The ArtisticWoodturners were invited to the St Anne's Round Up the 4th, 5th and 6th of October to do a woodturning demonstration for the public. The club had nine volunteers participating in the three-day event. We turned goblets, ornaments, honey dippers, chain pulls, bowls, tops, and baby rattles for the folks stopping by our booth.

Mr. Don Krehely, the co-ordinator of the round up, was so impressed with the quality of the items produced by the turners, that he invited us to participate in the Holiday Arts and Crafts Weekend Show November 30th, and December the 1st at the Family Life Center, during which time the Christmas lights will be lit for the Christmas season. There will be a $100 charge for the two days. This includes a 10ft by 10ft space with two folding chairs, Display tables and shelves furnished by the exhibitors. The club is looking for interested people with a supply of their finest turnings for a show. We will be selling our stuff this time.

The Flora-Bama Cutups Woodcarving Club has been invited to participate in the Arts and Craft Weekend at St Anne's. If you are interested in learning woodcarving their club meets on the 4th Thursday of each month at the Blackwater River Tool Co. from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.
