The club will be meeting at Ryan’s Steak House, Brent Lane and I-110 for an 11 o’clock lunch and social hour on the 15th of June. The same requirements still apply, the restaurant expect the members to eat a meal for the free use of their space for our meeting.
I have several reports from other sites VFW, American Legion, etc. they want $150 to meet in their establishment, and I don’t think the club wants to spend that kind of money to hold a meeting. May we have some feedback on this subject? This is a request to the membership to be on the lookout for a place to meet around 9-mile road.
Our thanks go out to Mr. Mike Demaline for the demo on segmented bowls. The feedback has been very good. Keep up the good work.
Thanks to Mr. Leland Leonard and Mr. Jeff Olive for donating the wood for the auction. The club realized a gain of $128.00 for in the treasury.
The club’s Website is up and running. You can see it by logging on to http://www.artisticwoodturners.com
One of the demos at this meeting is a little unusual. Floyd & Erica Harmon, from Fort Walton Beach have been turning for several years. They have traveled extensively and taken many classes from famous Woodturners. They will be bringing an assortment of items they have made through the years and will share tips and techniques they have learned. Floyd will show us another way to make inexpensive tool handles out of old water pipe. He has a unique way of making these handles absorb vibrations.
OB O’Brien will discuss various methods of how to make your own home brewed finishes.
There will be an open discussion for questions and answers about woodturning. Are you having a certain problem with your turning? A club member may have the answer to your question, and help you over a hard spot.
Plans are being made for a July field trip to visit the Magnolia Woodturners in Hattiesburg Miss. Their meetings are on the same weekend as ours, and we are looking at the possibility of renting a large tour bus, and going to Hattiesburg for the day, and visiting our woodturning friends. We will be looking for inputs on this idea, and a possible field trip for our July meeting.
Don’t forget about our Show & Tell portion of the meeting. Bring in your latest creations for our members viewing and enjoyment.
Don’t forget about the free wood up at OB’s. It belongs to the club and all you have to do is drive by OB’s and pick it up. The wood is cut up in short logs waiting for a home. Come and get it.
Many thanks to the members who helped at the Heritage Day event on Saturday June 1st. Club members operated the pole lathe for the viewing public. A good time was had by all, Food was supplied by Papa John’s Pizza, Subway, Coke, and Gatorade
Happy turning.
