Artistic Woodturners

 May Newsletter

This month our meeting will be held at Ryan’s Steak House Saturday the 18th of May. Ryan’s is located on Brent Lane at I-110. We will be meeting at 11a.m. for lunch and social hour. Members are encouraged to bring their spouse. The meeting will begin at 12 p.m. and run to about 3 p.m.

We would like to welcome the new members who signed up at the last meeting. They are James Crafton, Sy and Anne White, and Ned Wernick. Welcome Aboard !

Members are reminded that the 2002 dues are now due. Those who have not paid are reminded to do so. Only members in good standing will be able to check out Videos and Books.

Videotapes and books that have been checked out by members are reminded to return them, so other people can benefit from the information from the DEMO tapes.

There will be two demonstrations conducted at this meeting. Mike Demaline will show the attendees how to make segmented bowls, and OB will demonstrate his laser guided Mini system for hollowing on the Jet or Delta Midi lathes.

This months club challenge is the thinnest bowl turned on a lathe. The bowl must be 4 to 6 inches in diameter. The winner will receive a nice prize. NOTE: Pieces of a bowl don’t count.

Bring in your new creations for Show & Tell, this is the best part of the meeting. It gives members the opportunity to show off their skills, and to show their improvement.

The Alabama Woodturners club will be having Trent Bosch do a demonstration in Birmingham October 12th for $40.00, and a hands on two day for $150.00, if you are interested contact OB for additional information.

The club has plenty of free wood over at OB’s place in Pace see him for directions. Wood available Sweet Gum, Magnolia, Red Cedar, Oak and Popcorn. Come and get it before the termites arrive.
